IHMISLUONTO dance film screening in Tampere
SAT 25.5. at 4-6pm Arthouse Cinema Niagara
The open call for dance films to Tampere Dance Current festival (Tanssivirtaa Tampereella) received a record number of proposals from Finnish filmmakers. After the very challenging selection from 40 dance films, nine films presents this year’s dominant themes, such as technological and utopian themes and the importance of nature.
The common denominator for the film screening could be the ambiguous word HUMAN NATURE (ihmisluonto Finnish). Whether behind the concept is innate, universal or human nature, the films testify to the characteristic nature of humans to create culture and to understand and explain their environment.

Welcome to our eighth meeting. Our guest is curator and lecturer Gitta Wigro, who was invited to the Tanssivirtaa Tampereella contemporary dance festival.
In our meeting, Gitta Wigro talks about the London Contemporary Dance School’s (The Place) MA training in dance film, and I will be also interviewing her about questions related to curation. Unfortunately this time the meeting will not be organized as a hybrid.
Gitta Wigro is a freelance dance film programmer and curator based in London, UK, and has worked with a wide range of international screendance festivals, institutions and projects as a programmer, curator, juror, consultant and lecturer.
She is currently a programmer for the Screendance Competition at Leeds International Film Festival and one of the co-directors of Kinesthesia Festival. She is a core lecturer at the Screendance MA at London Contemporary Dance School, and in that role facilitates the student-led dance film festival Frame Rush. https://gittawigro.com/about/
Do you make dance / circus films / videos or physical cinema? Do you long for collegial discussion, clashing and sharing? Do you have a theme in mind for which you need the support, attention, dialogue or mentoring of your community? Come along to the meeting to get to know each other and think together about how our art form could develop further.

The second screening consists of eight Finnish dance films, which I selected from the open call. The screening called DANCESCAPES is a versatile and interesting screening and it will happen on May 31, 2023 at 5:00 PM at Arthouse Cinema Niagara, Tampere

OPEN CALL / COFFEE & MOVING IMAGES COMMUNITY
Deadline 23.3.2023
The open call is primarily aimed at works by or Finnish artists or artists living in Finland.
Three screenings organized by the Coffee and Moving Images community will be held on 15, 18 and 29 November 2023 at the cultural center Caisa in Helsinki. The total duration of each screening is limited to approx. 80 minutes and the films are included in the order of submission. The idea behind the screenings is that no one actually curates them. Therefore everyone has the opportunity to present their own work, but the film must fit the themes of minorities, diversity or inclusiveness. The work can be related to these themes in terms of its subject, perspective or authors.
For presenting the work in this context, a screening fee of €50-80 will be paid.
Along with the screening, there will be an audience discussion with the artists present. Unfortunately, we are not able to take into account the wishes of the creators regarding a specific screening date, the program of each screening is built considering the whole of the films submitted.
Submit your film by 23.3.2023. OPEN CALL IS CLOSED!!!
If your film is still in the production stage, we will need pre-marketing material and a guarantee that the film will be ready one month before the screenings.
