The film portrays how wild, free and beautiful the aging body is, how pointless the fear of wrinkles and skin folds is. 

Ode to Age is a dance film about elderly women who have had enough of the colorlessness of life. Together, they take off their everyday clothes and by joyful and undisciplined throw themselves into the Finnish summer. 

The film is produced by the Myrskyryhmä dance group, which carries out participatory art work. The idea and script were created in close collaboration with women aged 75–88 at the Idutuspajajoit. The film's choreography is also the result of the collaboration. Screenwriters Kallio and Elli Isokoski consider physical aging and its abilities important to talk about. "We want to show that despite the challenges of age, one can still express oneself physically and participate in the world in that way."

The film breaks down stereotypes about the elderly and gives visibility to a generation that is rarely represented in dance films. It celebrates the aging body and serves as an encouraging example for younger generations.

Siõrškuäđam (Quadrille) is a dance film about Skolt Sámi culture. The autoethnographic film tells the story of the main character, a Skolt Sámi woman who grew up outside the Sámi area, on her journey through intergenerational traumas to the edge of a culture that was silenced from her.

The quadrille dance, which has survived in Skolt Sámi culture to this day, is the only dance tradition that has survived among the Sámi people living in Finland.

The film is directed and written by Kati Kallio and Laura Feodoroff.

- Through this film, which is partly based on my life story, we want to bring Skolt Sámi culture to light. Both my grandmother's and grandfather's families have danced and made music for several generations. In our film, the quadrille reflects, on the one hand, traditions that have been silenced by assimilation, the loss of the Skolt Sámi language and separation from the community, Feodoroff says.

The film will be completed in 2025.

Sininen (The Blue) is a fairytale fantasy of a bird-like figure in the embrace of the forest. The central character of the film has evolved over the years as Vappu has searched for her power figure through dance and movement. The film depicts gentle strength and magical skills, independence and a self-directed ability to create life, meaning and encounters around her. Each of us has something unique to pass on. The script was written together with the performers and choreographed by Vappu Virkkula.

Minttu's film Pinkki (Pink) focuses on her unique way of creating choreography through touch. In her dance, touch informs, guides and makes visible her way of being with others. Another theme that emerges in the film is reciprocity between dancers and its importance for an equal encounter. Everyone can take turns to direct and be directed when there is trust between people and the conditions are just right for such a dialogue.

The idea and movement material of MustA is inspired by show wrestling and especially by the strong female characters in it. Sofia, Elisa and Riina often work together as choreographers. For Sofia, it is important to be seen as a strong and triumphant character who is not discouraged by challenges or opponents. Despite this, there is always a touch of light-hearted humor in her artistry. The script is written as closely as possible to Sofia's ideas.

Film Contrapeso is about a man struggling to uphold the meaningless construction of his life and whom through a mystical event, breaks the barrier he’s built for himself and recognises his true nature.

The film is inspired by Yeinner Chicas choreography 'Metamorphosis' (2016). The film was shot in Nicaragua in 2017.

ATCBP is a film version from performance ATCBP (And This Could be Possible?). Original performance (about 30 min) is allusion to the well-known productions made in the 90s in Russia. The performance “ATCBP” is another call of the author, choreographer Ilya Manilov, to himself. Placing himself in the most severe framework of working at the limit of his abilities, the choreographer is trying to expand the boundaries of his artistic limits. He wants to tell an old story with a new language, where dance is just one of the means of expressiveness.

Tanssivat kädet projekti 2018

Elokuvatrilogia Usko, Toivo, Rakkaus valmistettiin Tanssiryhmä Myrskyryhmän Tanssivat kädet -projektissa Myllypuron monipuolisen palvelukeskuksen asukkaiden kanssa, Helsingissä 2018. Projekti on osallistavaa tanssielokuvan tekemistä, missä palvelukeskuksen asukkaiden kanssa valmistetaan lyhyitä tanssielokuvia. Projekti haluaa tuoda esille palvelukeskuksessa asuvia henkilöitä ja antaa heille mahdollisuus käsitellä itselleen tärkeitä teemoja.

Ellin ja Railin kohdatessa yhteys toiseen syntyy tanssin ja kosketuksen kautta. ‘Rakkaus’ on poeettinen tanssielokuva kuuntelemisesta ja hetken jakamisesta.

When Ellin and Raili encounters a connection is born through dance. ‘Embrace’ is a poetic dance film about importance of sharing and being present.

Äärellä on ääretön aika -elokuvatrilogia on tanssiryhmä Myrskyryhmän ja koreografi Kati Kallion yhteinen tanssielokuvahanke, joka osallistaa vanhusten hoitolaitoksen asukkaita elokuvan käsikirjoitus- ja koreografian prosessiin.

Elokuvatrilogia sisältää kolme lyhytelokuvaa, joiden kerronnankielenä on tanssi ja koreografia. Toinen osa trilogiaa 'Toinen' työstettiin Wilhelmiinan monipuolisessa palvelukeskuksessa keväällä 2012.

Äärellä on ääretön aika -elokuvatrilogia on tanssiryhmä Myrskyryhmän ja koreografi Kati Kallion yhteinen tanssielokuvahanke, joka osallistaa vanhusten hoitolaitoksen asukkaita elokuvan käsikirjoitus- ja koreografian prosessiin.

Lyhyt yhden minuutin elokuva konsepti on kiinnostava tapa hioa elokuvakerrontataitoja. Se on myös hyvä esimerkki siitä, kuinka ajankulku muuttuu elokuvallisessa muodossa suhteessa näyttämöllä käytettyyn aikaan. Elokuvassa yhteen minuuttiin voi mahduttaa kokonaisen tarinan, mutta silloinkin se vaatii idean kirkkautta ja selkeää toteutusta.

A short one-minute film is an interesting concept of a way to explore possibilities of dance in film.  It is also a good example of how the time changes in a cinema in relation to the time spent in stage. One can tell a story in one minute, but even then it needs clear idea and good planning.

Breath is a dashing dance film about getting rid of an addiction. The Film praises the wonderfulness of breathing. The film presents both Kallio and her alter ego, Miss Rovaniemi, who comments on Kallio´s first three months without cigarettes.

Breath on esikoiselokuvani ja ensimmäinen elokuvayhteistyö kuvaaja-ohjaaja Mika Ailasmäen kanssa. Työskentely kameran kanssa imaisi sydämeni mukaan ja taival tanssielokuvan keskikohtaan alkoi. Kuvan tekeminen on ollut minulle rakas harrastus lapsesta saakka. Viimein löysin välineen jossa voin hyödyntää sekä kuvallista että tanssillista ilmaisua.

Breath is my debut film and first film-co-work with director-cinematographer Mika Ailasmäki. Working with the camera suck my heart into film works. Finally I find the way to use visual expression with dance that works well for me.
